New Schools for Alabama is thrilled to announce that our Chief Communications Officer, Candie Mitchell-Price, has been selected as part of the 2025 class for Momentum’s Upward program. This prestigious leadership program, based in Birmingham, is dedicated to helping early- and mid-career women advance their careers.
Momentum’s Upward program is in its seventh year and focuses on leadership development for women, with a nine-month curriculum running from February to October 2025. Participants, including Candie, will engage in sessions designed to enhance leadership skills, strengthen career paths, and navigate workplace challenges unique to women.
“Learning leadership skills early in their careers enables women to better negotiate, communicate, delegate, and navigate the confluence of upward mobility with increasing life responsibilities,” said April Benetollo, CEO of Momentum, in a release from the Birmingham Business Journal. “By investing in the next generation of leaders, we empower women to create a ripple effect of change within their organizations and communities.”
The program’s results are remarkable, with 40% of participants experiencing promotions or upward mobility during the program and reported salary increases ranging between $15,000 and $20,000. Candie was selected among 66 participants for her strong leadership potential, demonstrated career initiative, and dedication to community involvement.
Candie brings extensive experience in developing and executing PR, marketing, social media, and branding strategies for numerous organizations, entrepreneurs, and small business owners. Her passion for educational equity and advocacy for marginalized communities aligns with her impactful work at New Schools for Alabama. Before joining NSFA, Candie served as a middle and high school teacher in Birmingham City Schools. She is also a proud member of the Birmingham Junior League Chapter and the owner of WOW! (Women of the Word) Magazine, a premiere Christian lifestyle publication for women. The National Parents Union also recognized Candie for her work with NSFA's Parent Voice Network.
Please join us in congratulating Candie Mitchell-Price on this well-deserved achievement! Her participation in Momentum’s Upward program will undoubtedly inspire positive change within New Schools for Alabama and beyond.
